About the GPA Calculator

Grade Point Average is the single number that follows US students from high school through college applications and into grad school. The AlarmDaddy GPA Calculator computes your GPA on the standard 4.0 scale from your course grades and credit hours.

Add each course with its letter grade and credit hours. The calculator weights each grade by its credit hours — so a five-credit course counts more than a one-credit elective — and returns your overall GPA. Add or remove courses freely to see how a strong final exam or a struggling class moves your average. It supports the full A+ to F letter scale used by most US institutions.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Add each course you are taking.
  2. 2Select the letter grade for each.
  3. 3Enter the credit hours for each course.
  4. 4Read your credit-weighted GPA on the 4.0 scale.

The formula

GPA = Σ (grade points × credit hours) / Σ credit hours.

Each letter grade maps to a point value (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on). Multiply each course's points by its credit hours, sum across all courses, and divide by total credit hours to get the credit-weighted GPA.

Frequently asked questions

Each grade is converted to points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, etc.), multiplied by the course credit hours, summed, and divided by total credit hours. This weights bigger courses more heavily.
