About the Ideal Weight Calculator

What should you weigh for your height? There is no single answer, but several medically established formulas converge on a sensible range. The AlarmDaddy Ideal Weight Calculator computes your ideal weight using the Robinson, Miller, Devine, and Hamwi formulas, plus a healthy-BMI-based range, and presents them together so you can see a realistic target band rather than a single arbitrary number.

Enter your height and sex. The calculator returns each formula's estimate and an overall healthy range. Use it as a goalpost, not a verdict — frame size, muscle mass, and body composition all shift the ideal. It pairs naturally with the BMI and body-fat calculators.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter your height.
  2. 2Select your sex.
  3. 3Read your ideal weight from each formula and the overall healthy range.

The formula

Devine: 50 kg (men) / 45.5 kg (women) + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet. Plus Robinson, Miller, Hamwi variants.

These classic formulas all start from a base weight at 5 feet of height and add a fixed amount per inch above that. They differ slightly in their constants. The calculator also derives a range from the healthy BMI band (18.5–24.9) for your height.

Frequently asked questions

No single formula is definitive. The Devine formula is the most widely used in medicine, but viewing all of them as a range is more sensible than fixating on one number.
