About the Image Compressor

Large images slow down websites, fill up inboxes and bump against upload limits. The AlarmDaddy Image Compressor shrinks JPG, PNG and WebP files by re-encoding them at a quality you choose, with an optional resize to cap the width. You see the before-and-after file size and how much you saved, then download the smaller image.

Everything runs in your browser — your photos are never uploaded, so it's safe for personal and confidential images.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Choose or drag in an image.
  2. 2Pick the output format (JPEG or WebP) and a quality level.
  3. 3Optionally set a maximum width to downscale large photos.
  4. 4Compare the saved size and download the result.

The formula

The image is drawn to a canvas (optionally downscaled) and re-encoded at the chosen quality and format.

Lossy formats like JPEG and WebP let you trade a little visual quality for a much smaller file. The tool redraws your image on a canvas, optionally reduces its width, then exports it at your chosen quality level — lower quality and smaller dimensions mean a smaller file.

Frequently asked questions

No. Compression happens entirely in your browser using a canvas. Your images never leave your device.
