About the Pi Digits — Digits of π

The AlarmDaddy Pi Digits tool prints the value of pi (π) to as many decimal places as you like — up to 1,000 — and lets you look up the digit at any position. The digits are computed in your browser with Machin's formula, so they are accurate, not copied from a short fixed string.

It is handy for memorisation practice, classroom demonstrations and settling the occasional "what's the 100th digit of pi" question.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Choose how many digits of pi to show (up to 1,000).
  2. 2Read pi to that many decimal places.
  3. 3Enter a position to find that specific decimal digit.

The formula

Machin’s formula: π = 16·arctan(1/5) − 4·arctan(1/239), summed to the required precision.

Pi is computed with Machin's arctangent formula using big-integer arithmetic scaled to the requested number of digits, then the leading 3 and the decimal digits are read off. This converges quickly and stays exact to the displayed precision.
