The formula
To go from 12-hour to 24-hour, keep AM hours as-is except 12 AM which becomes 00, and add 12 to PM hours except 12 PM. To go the other way, hours 13–23 lose 12 and gain PM, 00 becomes 12 AM, and 12 stays as 12 PM.
