About the Keyboard Test

The AlarmDaddy Keyboard Test lights up each key on an on-screen keyboard as you press it, so you can quickly check that every key on your physical keyboard registers. It also shows the last key and its key code, and counts how many keys you have pressed.

It is the fastest way to diagnose a sticky or dead key, or to see exactly what key code a key sends. Nothing you type is recorded or sent anywhere.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Click anywhere on the page to focus it.
  2. 2Press any key — it lights up on the on-screen keyboard.
  3. 3Check the last key, its key code, and the count.

The formula

Listens for keydown/keyup events and highlights the matching key.

The tool listens to the browser's key events, matches each event's code to a key on the on-screen layout, and highlights it while held. It does not block or capture your keystrokes for anything else.

Frequently asked questions

Press the suspect key and watch the on-screen keyboard. If it does not light up, that key is not registering.
