About the Length Converter

Length is the measurement people convert most often — comparing a car's range in kilometres and miles, reading a height in feet and centimetres, or working out how many inches are in a metre. The AlarmDaddy Length Converter handles every common metric and imperial unit in one place: kilometre, metre, centimetre, millimetre, mile, yard, foot, inch and nautical mile.

For Indian users it also includes traditional units still used day to day — the gaj (gaz), which equals one yard, the haath (cubit, about 18 inches) and the angul. So you can convert gaj to feet, metres or yards without a second tool.

Type a value, pick the units you're converting from and to, and the answer appears instantly. A live table below shows your value in every unit at once, so you don't have to convert one pair at a time. Everything runs in your browser, so it's fast and works offline once the page has loaded.

The formula

result = value × (factor_from ÷ factor_to), where each factor is the unit's size in metres.

Every length unit is defined relative to the metre (1 mile = 1609.344 m, 1 foot = 0.3048 m, 1 gaj = 0.9144 m). To convert, the value is first expressed in metres, then divided by the target unit's metre value. This single base-unit approach keeps every conversion exact.

Frequently asked questions
